Raymond Page recently attended Budgeting workshop delivered by our very own Roy Crosby and was delighted with the experience.
I recently attended one of these day-long events. It’s by far the best of its kind that I’ve come across in a long time. The presenter, Roy, is friendly and approachable, knows his topic and dispenses the course content in manageable chunks.
We start with a balance sheet; there’s a handout with various typical entries, these are explained in detail and expanded as necessary. The first exercise; transfer the balance sheet entries to an Income & Expenditure paper spreadsheet using the apportionment notes supplied. The various rationales are discussed, explored and applied. A model answer spreadsheet is then distributed.
Next exercise is transferring these results to a Cash Flow statement; again, using the notes provided and discussing the reasoning behind each entry. Again, a model answer is distributed.
The final exercise, and in my mind, this part elevates the course to a new level. We tackle a Funding Application. The exercise demonstrates how to incorporate new information to the existing Cash Flow statement, where to place the new entries and how to make reference to them. Prospective Funders should see immediately that the application is coherent and cogent. In addition, and this is key, Funders will realise that the people behind the application thoroughly understand their organisation, its financial structure and that they are in control.
